Olivia Pirie-Griffiths

“Journalism is a pillar of democracy. If we want a strong democracy in an increasingly difficult national security environment, we need appropriate supports for press freedom.”

Olivia has skills in policy development, strategy, government relations, fundraising and events, having worked for the Public Interest Advocacy Centre, conceptual agency Glider and The Ethics Centre.

In the Head of Policy role, Olivia advises the CEO on the development of AJF policies, conducts government relations and relationship building with stakeholders and manages the organisation’s Asia–Pacific initiatives, including the Press Freedom Tracker, the Asia–Pacific Dialogues and the strategies that support those projects. Olivia is also AJF’s Company Secretary.

Olivia was AJF’s Executive Director from January 2019-April 2022. In addition to her role with AJF, she is currently also Chief of Staff at Scout Publishing, a publisher housing seven mastheads and over 50 staff.
