Time Magazine has named a collective of journalists their ‘Person of the Year’ for 2019.

Honourees include murdered journalist, Jamal Khashoggi, imprisoned Reuters journalists U Wa Lone and U Kyaw Soe Oo, Maria Ressa founder of news-startup, Rappler in the Philippines and the staff of the Capital Gazette newspapers in Maryland.

The magazine heralds these journalists as guardians of the truth and goes on to describe a war on truth that has cloaked the globe this year.

The article quotes Maria Ressa, whose publication is constantly under attack from the authoritarian regime of President Rodrigo Duterte:

“I’ve been a war-zone correspondent. That is easy compared to what we’re dealing with now.”

Press freedom in the age of COVID-19

The Alliance for Journalists’ Freedom is speaking to journalists and publishers in the Asia–Pacific to determine the impact the COVID-19 virus has had – and is having – on press freedom in the region.

Please help us gather this data by taking this short survey, and sharing it with other journalists, publishers and press freedom organisations, so that we can design effective and long-term regional solutions to support press freedom in the Asia–Pacific.
