We’re so proud to have won at the #TrustLawAwards for our crucial work using legal pro bono to drive change.

‍

We partnered with lawfirm Allens to review Australian secrecy laws. We submitted our findings as part of the Attorney-General’s Department Review of Secrecy Provisions consulation process. Our submission can be read here.

‍

The review developed 11 recommendations to guide future work to:

  • reduce the number of secrecy provisions
  • support a consistent approach to the framing of secrecy provisions
  • maintain essential protections for Commonwealth information
  • respond to stakeholder concerns about the impact of secrecy provisions on press freedom.

The department’s full review responding to submissions can be read here.

‍

It’s an honour to be celebrated by TrustLaw, the legal pro bono service of the Thomson Reuters Foundation, alongside other firms and NGOs working to make a lasting impact on society: https://tmsnrt.rs/4bx9pYd
